New USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map

How apropos that the U.S. Department of Agriculture released its 2012 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map at almost the same time as I launched my new website.  If you’re new to my clematis crusade you may not know I’ve been a long-time supporter of their previous map, so I’m equally enthusiastic about this one.  This updated map has more accurate climate information as well as two additional warm zones: Zones 12 &13 (that only appear in Hawaii and Puerto Rico).

In future articles I will be writing more about how it affects American clematis growers, but for now I would like to invite you to see for yourself how fabulous it is.  If you go to: it gives you an opportunity to view state maps, regional maps or national maps.  It also allows you to select your resolution from: standard (72 dpi), medium (150 dpi) or high (300 dpi).  You can look up your USDA Zone by your zip code as well at this address:  I was very pleased with how user-friendly it is!
